Bookmark and Share

A lot of my friends or relatives always ask me the procedure needed in the airport whenever they go overseas. I find that the steps involved are the same and repeated. Therefore, in this article, I write the procedure step by step and would like to share with you too. It is not a fixed procedure though. Instead, it is only a guidelines or reference for travellers. For your information, the article here is solely based on my experience and knowledge. Therefore, please use it at your own risk.

In this article, I use Singapore as an example for the destination, since I always travel to Singapore from Soekarno-Hatta airport.

DEPARTING FROM JAKARTA, INDONESIA
SOEKARNO-HATTA AIRPORT

The procedure is as follows.
  1. Prepare the passport and the (e)ticket.
  2. Prior to enter the x-ray station, there will a security guard standing at the entrance. Pass him the passport and the (e)ticket for checking.
  3. Place your suitcase/luggage on the x-ray machine for scanning.
  4. Go to the check-in counter according to the airline you will take. You can check the location of this check-in counter either by asking people or checking the electronics board before passing through the entrance for x-ray scanning.
  5. At the check-in counter, pass the officer your passport and (e)ticket. Rp100,000 will be paid at this counter for Soekarno-Hatta airport tax. Do not forget to ask for receipt.
  6. The officer will then return you the passport, (e)ticket, and boarding pass, and inform you the boarding gate number, the gate opening time, and the boarding time.
  7. The officer will also give you an immigration card to go-out/come-back Indonesia. Fill in this card later on.
  8. Ask the officer the counter to pay the fiscal fee if you are on social visit pass. Go to the fiscal payment counter for clearing by paying Rp1,000,000. Do not forgot to ask for receipt.
  9. If you are on student pass or working permit or permanence resident in other country, ask the officer the counter to get the fiscal fee exemptation receipt. Please proceed to this counter immediately since it is usually a long queue that will take up a lot of your time.
  10. After settling this, if time permits, you can go out from the place first to meet and have chit-chat with your parents and relatives while filling in the go-out/come-back Indonesia immigration card.
  11. When it is about the time to board, you need to go through step 1, 2, and 3 again.
  12. After the x-ray scanning, you can proceed to the counter to get your fiscal fee payment checked. You can pass to him your passport, (e)ticket, boarding pass, immigration card, and fiscal fee receipt.
  13. Afterwards, you can queue to get your passport stamped. You can pass to him all documents mentioned in step 12.
  14. Having stamped, check your passport to make sure that it is stamped with the correct date. The logo you will see is usually a blue or red triangle.
  15. You can now proceed to the gate. If you are not sure which gate you should go, please check your boarding pass. Usually it will be circled there.
  16. Arriving at the gate, please proceed and you will be x-ray scanned one more time here.
  17. Pass to the officer here your passport, (e)tickets, boarding pass, immigration card, and fiscal fee payment receipt.
  18. At this point, your immigration card will be torn. For your information, the immigration card consists of two sides, i.e. one side for going-out Indonesia, the other side for coming-back to Indonesia. You will receive the other side and please do not throw it away.
  19. After settling all these procedures, you may now take a seat in the waiting room for boarding.
  20. The announcement for boarding will be made and you may proceed to the plane now. Check your seat number in the boarding pass.
  21. On the plane, the stewardess will offer you immigration card for go-in/out Singapore. Please take one and fill in the information needed.
