What If Your Name Is Only One Word?

In general, we know that buying aeroplane ticket online is cheaper than if we buy it from travel agency. Furthermore, it saves us from the hassle of taking a trip down to the agency to collect the ticket. Buying ticket online is relatively easy and credit card can be used for payment. Upon confirmation, an email will be sent and we just need to print and bring the e-ticket that is attached in the email.

However, this was not true when I needed to buy a ticket for my brother a couple weeks ago. I tried many times to book a ticket from an airline, but it was not successful. I tried again on other airlines and my effort also went to drain.

In fact, what was happening? Was it your internet connection problem? Well, it is not. How about your cookies setting? It is not neither. Then what was wrong?

The problem encountered was that my brother's name only consists of one word. Well, there is nothing wrong with one-word name, is there? Of course, there is nothing wrong; it is just that the online system cannot recognize one-word name.

So I made calls to the airlines and after few attemps, I managed to talk to their IT supports.I explained to them what is happening though in the few first calls, they can't really give the solution. I also called up my friends whose name also consists of one word only. They all gave me few suggestions with a hope that it can work. Then for my last call to the airline, they gave me the advise that I was looking for.

Herein, I will share with you the options that you can try should you find the same problem as mine. Please note that these advises weren given by my friends and some airlines' IT support.I hope that it can benefit the people out there that currently have difficulty in booking ticket only due to one-word name.

1. for the first name, write your one-word name; for the last name, type "."
2. for the first name, write your one-word name; for the last name, type ".."
3. for the first name & last name, write your one-word name
4. for the last name, write your one-word name; for the first name, write MR/MRS/MS/MISS
