Why do we need to control our emotion and feeling?
Research shows that human has as many as 60,000 thoughts in a day. Of course it is not easy to sort those thoughts into positive group and negative group. There is an easy way to know which one is in which group, i.e. through emotion and feeling.
Bob Doyle - one of the characters in the movie The Secret - said that emotion is an unbelievable present that it can make us know what we think. The point is when we feel happy and excited, it means we are in the positive area, while when we feel sad, down, worried, fearful, envious, it means we are in the negative area.
"GOOD" feeling --> Think "GOOD" --> attracts "GOOD" things
"BAD" feeling --> Think "BAD" --> attracts "BAD" things
A good feeling will result in good thought. A good thought will be shown in good word and behaviour. A good word and behaviour shown regularly will become a good habit. The good habit will form a good character and personality too and it will determine our future. We'll, this is the way it works.
For example, if we wake up early in the morning with a negative mood because we were scolded the day before, then our mind will somehow tell us: "Ah, today I am lazy to go to office. A bit later does not matter", "Well, today I will take a day off because I don't have the mood to work", or we go to office half-heartedly. In the office, if this mood is still the same, then our word and behaviour will be negative too, for example, gossiping about the boss, badmouth about the company, etc. If we keep doing it, then it will become our habit. Well, it is easier to form a negative character than a positive one. Once our character turns bad, it is needless to say that we will be observed (by boss, colleagues,
subordinates). Then you can answer yourself, how his future will look like. In fact, all originates from the emotion.
Your emotion and feeling will form who you are. It will always be that way. Definitely -Lisa Nichols.
How to change our emotion
1. Change MOVEMENT
Let us try this when we wake up in the morning. You feel lazy to wake up. Though your eyes are still close, you force yourself to wake up. Do not forget to S.M.I.L.E and thank God for the day. Then do a short jump for about 10-15 minutes. Afterwards, you go back to sleep? NO, you will go directly to go to shower to get ready to work. The reason is because the movement that you did will stimulate the blood to flow to everywhere; body and brain, and open up the body pores to excrete sweat.
The body movement of a lifeless person can be differentiated from the full of spirit one's. So, if you are lack of spirit, try to change your body movement to resemble those belong to a lifefull person: walk fast, stand straight up, smile. This will change your mood from not motivated to more cheerful.
2. Change FOCUS
Try to do this when you are in bad mood: Change your focus to happy thing or fun experience. We need to flash back to the success that we achieved in the past and the happy feeling that we will get from my success in the future whenever our mind and emotion is in negative state. By doing so, we will be inspired and motivated to go back to reach our dream though sometimes failure comes on the way there.
It is easy yet difficult to do so. But do remember that it originates from emotion and will develop into habit. If we do this consistently, it will become our habit and it will be easier for us to change our mood.
3. Change INTERNAL VOICE
Imagine that you accompany kids watching cartoon and listening to Donald Ducks' special voice "quack...quack...quack...". You will turn out joining them laughing.
Changing internal voice means changing the voice that make us uncomfortable (for example swear, scold, feedback, comment from boss, clients, consumers, colleagues, friends, etc) into a voice that sounds funny and entertaining to us.
A funny voice is like Donald Ducks' voice, a man's lady-liked voice, or other funny voice that you encounter in life. After all, it will change your mood to be more positive and more motivating.
4. Change MEANING
You may ever read from newspaper that unemployment rate is high and life is so stressful that a lot of people commit suicide.
YES, you give meaning to your life. If someone considers himself poor, sleep under bridge, does not have any family, eat from leftover food, disable, etc, in your opinion what he will do? Perhaps he will take shortcut by committing suicide.
Comparing to someone else whose condition is the same, but he gives another meaning to his life. "This kind of days is enough for me. I need to try harder and appreciate my life so that other will appreciate me". With this kind of meaning, the chance for me to get better is more.
5. Change SITUATION
Training in open space will give different situation and result compared to training indoor. A place and situation that is different from our routine will give different impact.
For example, if we are in the office everyday, try to go to places with different situation during holiday. This is to refresh our mind and recover our body cells.
6. Change INPUT
When we watch some show on TV with family: X-files, Smack Down, CIA, etc what do you think the public comment is like. "Wow, the criminal becomes more cruel", "how come nowadays it is not safe", "Why those guys do not have feeling". Do you know what the result will be? A negative thought will affect our emotion to be negative too.
Change our emotion into positive state by listening to motivational songs: I have a dream - Westlife, The power of the dream - Celine Dion, We are the champion - Queen, etc, reading motivational books, attending seminar, club, organisation, self-improvement course, socialization.
By changing the input, we can reprogram our mind and emotion to be better.
